Warner Music and Warner Production

In 1974, music producer Fred Foster opened the Nashville branch of Monument Records label in the house located at 21 Music Square East. At the time, Monument Records, based in Washington D.C., represented Charlie McCoy and Roy Orbison. Later clients included country legends such as Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton. The studio changed hands many times, first in 1984 when the building was purchased by actress Mary Tyler Moore, who owned a music production company. At the time, they represented Holly Dunn, who recorded “Daddy’s Hands,” and Judy Rodman, who sang “Until I Met You.” In 1989, Warner Music Group purchased the studio from the Mary Tyler Moore Music Group for $1.1 million. Warner Music Group is part of the Warner Media conglomerate, which dates back to the founding of Warner Brothers Studio in 1918.

The recording studios were renovated in 2005. After more than sixty years of working with some of the biggest names in country music, Warner Music Group and its family of labels officially expanded their presence in Music City with the creation of Warner Music Nashville in 2009. Artists with Warner Music include Blake Shelton, Dan + Shay, Kenny Chesney, Raelynn, Dee White, Cale Dodds, Brett Eldredge, and Tegan Marie.

Warner Music Group also owns Warner/Chappell Productions, who operates the studio across the street. The studio space at 20 Music Square East began in 1986 as SyncroSound Studios. In 1989, Warner/Chappell purchased and renovated the studio.
