Noelle Hotel

After only six months of construction, Nashville’s Oscar Noel opened the Noel Hotel in 1930. The hotel was in the heart of the banking district. The Great Depression, which started in 1929, hit the “Wall Street of the South” hard but the hotel survived. Contemporary renovations, completed in 2017, preserved the original lobby floors, pink marble stairs, pink and green marble columns, brass mail shoot, drinking fountain, and more. Along with physical updates, the spelling of the hotel’s name was also given a modern twist—now called the Noelle Hotel.

There are four dining options at the hotel today. A quick bite in the Trade Room situates you in the original registration desk area. Drug Store Coffee is located where the Noel’s original coffee shop stood and is a great stop for a caffeine boost at the tour’s halfway point. If you seek a modern atmosphere, head downstairs from the lobby to the Makeready Libations & Liberation, a restaurant serving American tapas and tavern cuisine. Finally, the Rare Bird rooftop bar offers picturesque views of the river.

The building directly next to Noelle houses our next stop, the Dream Hotel.

Description Designed by Marr & Holman, the Noel Hotel opened in 1930. After surviving the Great Depression, the original hotel closed in the 1970s. The rooms were remodeled into offices, calling for a name change to Noel Place. Re-opening its doors in 2017 as a hotel once again, the twelve-story renamed Noelle Hotel boasts few changes to its exterior while many of its Neoclassical design elements remains intact. Located in the center of downtown Nashville, hotel guests of both the early 1900s and now could easily access shopping, business offices, or the infamous Printers Alley National Register Historic District.
