Women's History Highlights
Hello! My name is Carole Bucy. I serve as the Davidson County Historian, and I am also a professor of History at Volunteer State Community College. Welcome to Nashville's Women’s History Highlights tour! Nashville’s women have played a significant role in our city’s founding and growth. From the early frontier days to the present, we will highlight the lives and legacies of several female trailblazers. Some led movements related to woman’s suffrage, social reform, and Civil Rights. Others served as leaders in government, business, education, health care, and non-profits. Moreover, women have played equally important roles in Nashville as members of clubs and houses of worship, students and activists, and as wives, mothers, and sisters.
This tour will introduce you to Nashville women from all walks of life who have touched and shaped our city in meaningful ways—large and small. Of course, we won’t be able to tell you about everyone who has made this city great, but this tour highlights the stories of several women whose lives and experiences are connected to the downtown area. The Women’s History Highlights tour begins at the Public Square. If you would like to listen to this stop from Fort Nashborough however, you can optionally begin the tour there before returning to Public Square. The address for Fort Nashborough is 170 First Avenue North.
