Early Black Life and Culture

You’ve reached the conclusion of the tour. Thank you for accompanying us on this important and powerful journey through early Black life and culture in Nashville’s downtown. It is a story of tragedy and pain as well as survival and resilience. As you continue on your way around the Capitol Path, take a moment to look north to Bicentennial Mall and the new Tennessee State Museum and further to the Germantown neighborhood. To the west, catch a glimpse of Cravath Hall and Fisk Memorial Chapel.

Continue on the pathway around the capitol to the western side where it enters Seventh Ave. North. Here you’ll pass by the Tennessee State Library and Archives and the Tennessee Supreme Court. Both have exhibit spaces open to the public; the TN Supreme Court building is also featured on the Civic and Public Spaces Tour and the Capitol and Church Architecture Tour. This is Chakita Patterson. For more information on my guided walking tour company visit UnitedStreetTours.com.
