Word Records, one of the largest Christian music publishing companies in the country, was founded in Waco, Texas in 1951 by Jarrell McCracken (1927-2007). In 1974, Word as sold to ABC (the American Broadcasting Company), which merged with Capital Cities, Inc. ten years later, consequently making Word's owner Capital Cities ABC. In 1992, it was sold to Thomas Nelson Publishers, Inc. for seventy-two million dollars. That same year, Word Entertainment moved its headquarters to Music Row in Nashville. In 2001, Mike Curb (1944-) contributed to Warner Brother's acquisition of Word Entertainment. Throughout the decades, Word produced music from Amy Grant (1960-) to the Gaither Trio to Veggie Tales.
