Description

The house at 21 Music Square East housed Monument Records, a DC-based record label founded by Fred Foster (1931-2019), from 1974 until its purchase in 1984. Building was purchased by actress Mary Tyler Moore (1936-2017) for the MTM Music Group for approximately $830,000. In 1989, Warner Music Group purchased the studio from MTM Music Group for $1,100,000. Warner used the space both for offices and recording. The recording studios were later renovated in 2005 to take advantage of more modern technology.
