Description

The Brennan Foundry, also known as the Claiborne Machine Works, was on the southwest corner of Broadway and present-day First Avenue South. Prior to the Civil War, the foundry produced ornamental iron works. The ornamental iron work crowing the tower of the Tennessee State Capitol was cast here in 1855. During Nashville's nine months as a Confederate city, Brennan Foundry cast cannon tubes for the Confederacy, three of which are housed by the Tennessee State Museum. As of 2019, the building that was on the property, Acme Feed and Seed, was built around 1890.
