Description

The Seeing Eye, the world-famous dog guide training school, was incorporated in Nashville on January 29, 1929. Its headquarters were in the Fourth and First National Bank Building at 315 Union Street. Morris Frank (1908-1980), a twenty-year-old blind man from Nashville, and his guide dog, Buddy, played a key role in the school’s founding and subsequent success. It was Frank who persuaded dog breeder Dorothy Harrison Eustis (1886-1946) to establish a school in the United States. In 1931, the organization relocated to Whippany, New Jersey, because the climate in the Northeast was more suitable for training dogs. As of 2019, the Seeing Eye was located in Morris Township, New Jersey.
