Description

The Carl Van Vechten Gallery commissioned James Miles and Russell Faxon to sculpt and cast this statue of W.E.B. DuBois, one of Fisk University’s most notable alumni, in 1982. Co-founder of the NAACP, W.E.B DuBois was one of the most prominent African American authors and sociologists during his life. Located on Fisk University’s campus, this full-length statue depicts DuBois in a suit while holding two large books, and is meant to honor DuBois’ achievements as a civil rights activist.
