Description
From 1972 to 1997, the current site of Opry Mills was originally the Opryland Theme Park. The park was acquired by Gaylord Entertainment in 1995, which initially did not intend to change the theme park. However, after a significant investment from the Mills Corporation, the Gaylord Entertainment group announced the closure of the Opryland Theme Park in October 1997. The park's last day of operation was December 31, 1997, and it was not until May 2000 that Opry Mills opened its doors.
