Middle Tennessee State University was founded in 1911 as Middle Tennessee State Normal School. In 1925, the school was renamed Middle Tennessee State Teachers College when the degree program changed to four years leading to a bachelor of science degree. In 1965, the school was advanced to the university status and the name was changed to Middle Tennessee State University. In 1911, MTSU was a school of 100 acres, 125 students and a faculty of nineteen. As of 2021, MTSU is a school of over 500 acres, roughly 22,000 students and a faculty of over 900.
