Historic First National Bank

36.163563, -86.778755

Description

Located in the Printers Alley National Register Historic District, Nashville's historic First National Bank was completed in 1905. Designed by the architecture firm Barnett, Hayes and Barnett, this twelve story office building was one of Nashville's first skyscrapers. Third National Bank acquired the building in 1938 and doubled its size. Concurrently, new Art Deco detailing replaced the exterior’s original Neo-Classical ornamentation. After sitting empty for almost eleven years, it avoided demolition due to its 1997 renovation into the Courtyard by Marriott Nashville Downtown. First National Bank is among the tallest structures in the Printers Alley Historic District.
