Description

Granbury's Lunette was a crescent-shaped fortification used by Confederate troops as part of their line of defense during the Battle of Nashville. It was named for General Hiram B. Granbury, who perished in the Battle of Franklin. It was held by General Benjamin Franklin Cheatham and 344 of Granbury's former corps members along with 4 pieces of artillery. The Union Army troops, primarily United States Colored Troops (USCT), launched the Battle of Nashville attack on the morning of Thursday, December 15, 1864. They were not successful and suffered many casualties.
