In 1867, the National Board of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church voted to move its Publishing House from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Nashville. In 1871, the first building was opened at 41 Union Street. The building was later moved to 70 Union Street in 1879 and then 138 Church Street in 1884. It finally settled at 150 North Cherry, now Fourth Avenue North, in 1891. By 1913 the structure stretched along the block and included the Publishing House, a bookstore, the Publishing Board, and produced weekly and monthly publications. The Publishing House moved to Nolensville Road in 1914.
